The KTURF Nitrogen Model

This model approximates the percentage of applied nitrogen that leaches through 50 cm (20 inches) of soil covered with turfgrass under fairway conditions. Following are the input parameters needed to estimate the percentage of applied nitrogen leached. The results should be posted back immediately. In the event of a problem, please use the e-mail to report the error received and the steps you completed.

It has been shown in technical publications that the percentage of nitrogen that leaches does not change with applications rate if the application rate is between 1/4 lb per 1000 sq. ft. and 2 lb per 1000 sq. ft. Therefore, application rate is not an input in the following model.

For more information about how this model was developed, refer to background information link.

If you are referring to the USGA Green Section Record input data, please read the following correction.

The sand content in your soil (percentage): %

Approximate amount of irrigation per watering:

The form of nitrogen:

The time in days after application that you want to know the leaching:

Errors you may encounter
Notes:
  1. Please be patient as it may take 1 minute or more for the results to be posted back to you.
  2. The one 1 inch irrigation application is considered to be a storm event where 1 inch falls in about 5 minutes.
  3. The input values that you enter that fall outside the training range are set to the training set boundaries.
  4. If the moisture content of the soil is greatly different than at field capacity, the true leaching will vary somewhat from KTURFs predictions.
