Links
Here are some excellent links for information on Cadence IC Design tools. The WPI tutorial page listed first is a "must see" for anyone new to these tools. The NCSU toolkit covers the process we use in our Introduction to VLSI course and is also good background reading. Finally, check out the links to Cadence's own information and that of their University partners! This covers the IC tools, but also the full suite of products offered through the Cadence North American University Program.
Cadence Tool Use at K-State
Kansas State University provides
students with access to a number of software programs donated by Cadence.
These programs are installed on the PCs in the EECE computing lab. Some of them
run under Windows, while others run only under Linux. To use the latter,
you will need to reboot into Linux. All require a valid EECE account for
access.
Software available includes:
- Advanced Pspice tools including schematic-capture, simulation, and board
layout (hosted on Windows XP)
- IC design tools (hosted on Linux - which we now run under Windows via the magic of CentOS)
This software is used in a
variety of courses, including:
- EECE525 and 526 Electronics courses
- EECE641 Advanced Digital Design Using Hardware Description Languages
course
- EECE645 Digital Electronics course
- EECE696 Integrated Circuit Design course
- EECE 765 Digital Radio Microelectronics Design course
The software
is also used by graduate students and faculty working on academic research
projects sponsored by various companies and government labs, including:
- NSF
- Honeywell
- Sandia National Labs
- Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation
- NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Using the Software
Software hosted on the Windows PCs is available through the Windows Start
menu and includes on-line documentation.
IC design software hosted on Linux is a bit more involved to setup and use. For a
primer on how to use this software see your EECE696 class notes,
and also see the on-line help pages and the tutorials created by other Cadence
University Program member universities given in the links section above (especially the WPI tutorial !!).
